‘Stone Cold’ is the sophomore studio album of San Diego rapper Rob $tone. Based on the already created album art, I was tasked with developing the lyric book which would be included with the limited edition physical copy of the album.
‘Stone Cold’ was a very personal release for Rob $tone. With the provided digital release artwork and a handful of press photos, we needed to create a complementary visual narrative for the lyric book. My approach was to make this piece reminiscent of a scrapbook/notebook. We requested that he provide us with any handwritten notes he may have jotted down during the album’s conception and any other personal elements to enhance this design. He generously offered hand-drawn images and scribblings. These elements, when combined with the portraits and “redacted” graphic elements, created a highly personalized and dramatic lyric book.
